Code 12U is present on my 2023 Chevrolet Traverse, with the description “Primary exterior color: White, Upper. This code identifies the vehicle's factory-applied main exterior paint color” The visible equipment does not match what I expected. Has anyone run into a similar mismatch?

I would start by checking the original build sheet and then compare the physical equipment on the vehicle. A sales or option code confirms the factory record, but it does not prove that every original component is still installed.

This sounds more like a documentation mismatch than a decoder error. Different databases often shorten the same factory description in different ways.

I have seen this on a similar Chevrolet Traverse. The basic description was correct, but one related feature was part of a separate package. I would not assume the code includes every item mentioned in marketing material.

Check the production month as well as the model year. Mid-year changes are one reason two vehicles with the same badge can have different hardware or descriptions.
