2U7 — Customer Preferred Package - U7. This code identifies a factory option package or special-edition equipment group. Browse Sales Code codes →

I received a VIN equipment report for a 2020 Jeep Cherokee, and 2U7 is listed as “Customer Preferred Package - U7. This code identifies a factory option package or special-edition equipment group” Before I order parts, I want to confirm that the code reliably identifies the original configuration.

The dealer should be able to pull a VIN-specific equipment or parts record. Ask them to search by VIN rather than entering only the three-character code.

On these vehicles, similar descriptions can use different codes because of supplier changes or package combinations. The code itself is useful, but the VIN-specific parts catalog is better before ordering anything.

I have seen this on a similar Jeep Cherokee. The basic description was correct, but one related feature was part of a separate package. I would not assume the code includes every item mentioned in marketing material.

Before buying, I would inspect the relevant component and take a photo of its label or part number. That often resolves whether the vehicle still has the factory configuration associated with 2U7.

Check the production month as well as the model year. Mid-year changes are one reason two vehicles with the same badge can have different hardware or descriptions.

I would start by checking the original build sheet and then compare the physical equipment on the vehicle. A sales or option code confirms the factory record, but it does not prove that every original component is still installed.

The wording may be abbreviated because these were originally production codes rather than consumer descriptions. “Customer Preferred Package - U7. This code identifies a factory option package or special-edition equipment group” is a reasonable plain-English reading, but the exact implementation should be verified for the 2020 model.

Some codes are reused across several brands, but that does not always mean the parts are identical. Model, trim, drivetrain, and production date can all matter.
