My 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 has code 4AJ, described as “Interior trim: Jet Black/Dark Titanium. This code identifies the factory upholstery material, color combination, or interior trim specification” I understand the basic definition, but I am interested in the practical effect during normal driving, towing, or highway use.

The dealer should be able to pull a VIN-specific equipment or parts record. Ask them to search by VIN rather than entering only the three-character code.

For a retrofit, check the modules, wiring connectors, software configuration, and compatible part numbers first. Installing the visible component alone may not make the feature operational.

If you are documenting the vehicle, save both the original wording and the readable explanation. That preserves the factory terminology while making the record understandable later.

I would start by checking the original build sheet and then compare the physical equipment on the vehicle. A sales or option code confirms the factory record, but it does not prove that every original component is still installed.

I have seen this on a similar Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The basic description was correct, but one related feature was part of a separate package. I would not assume the code includes every item mentioned in marketing material.
